Still buying the same old whisky? Maybe it’s time to try something different.
If your regular choices include Blender’s Pride, Oaksmith, Signature, Rockford or Antiquity Blue, here are four whiskies worth checking out. Each is priced at ₹700 at Hard Taste Wineshop, Morjim, Goa.
These are interesting alternatives in the budget whisky segment, with different blends, producers and flavour profiles.
1. Whistler – ₹700
From the makers of Indri Single Malt
Whistler comes from Piccadily Distillery in Indri, Haryana, the same company behind the internationally recognised Indri Single Malt.
This is a barrel-aged blended malt whisky made using selected malt and grain spirits. Expect a mellow profile with notes of dried apple, apricot, vanilla, caramelised malt and toasted oak, followed by gentle spice and a medium-to-long finish.
2. The Indian Edit – ₹700
From Allied Blenders & Distillers
The Indian Edit is a newer premium whisky from Allied Blenders & Distillers (ABD), the company behind well-known brands such as Officer’s Choice and Sterling Reserve.
It blends Indian malt and grain spirits with Scotch malts. Its official tasting description highlights vanilla, caramel and gentle oak, with warmth and a lingering finish. A good option if you want to explore a newer blend from an established Indian spirits company.
Other famous whiskies from the company: Officer’s Choice and Sterling Reserve.
3. MaQintosh – ₹700
Associated with Amrut Distilleries
MaQintosh is associated with Amrut Distilleries, the Bengaluru-based name known internationally for its Indian single malts.
Unlike a typical light and sweet blend, MaQintosh is described as having smoky and peaty notes, along with floral and nutty character. It offers a different flavour direction for someone looking to try something beyond the usual everyday whisky.
Another famous whisky from the same house: Amrut Fusion Single Malt.
4. Ignite Reserve – ₹700
Ignite International Brands
Ignite Reserve is presented as a blend of Scotch and Indian malts, with the malt component matured for three years in oak casks.
The producer describes it as full-bodied, malty and smooth, with a slight smoky or peaty character. If you enjoy a whisky with a little more warmth and a smoky edge, this is one to explore.
Producer note: Ignite’s official website identifies Ignite International Brands Ltd. but does not clearly disclose the manufacturing distillery or another established whisky from that distillery.
